Deputy Pablo Yedlin Assumes Presidency of Families Commission, Calls to Overcome Political Divide

Buenos Aires, April 14 (NA) – National deputy from Unión por la Patria Pablo Yedlin today assumed the presidency of the Families, Children, and Youth commission, and stated that the lower house “has an obligation to be above the political divide on these issues.” After taking office, the Tucuman official outlined the priority axes for the legislative period and warned about the defunding of critical health programs. “The idea is that we can keep the commission working actively throughout this year,” he affirmed. One of the central points of his intervention was the approach to violence on social networks. “I sincerely hope that the political divide that is so fashionable does not interfere with technical work. Let's have our moments of technical work and our moments of political work. This is not an election year, so I think we can take advantage of it in this sense,” he emphasized. “This Chamber has an obligation to be above the political divide on these issues and that we can work on what we can do to make these cases less frequent in Argentina and be able to overcome them,” he insisted. In this regard, Yedlin informed that there are 18 active projects on the topic and proposed to advance towards a consensual text. Likewise, the Peronist deputy expressed his deep concern about social and health indicators, such as the increase in infant and maternal mortality rates. He also warned about the defunding of programs such as the ENIA Plan (unintended adolescent pregnancy), the Comprehensive Sex Education Law (ESI), and the Remediar Program. At the end of his speech, the opposition legislator called on his peers to avoid partisan polarization from hindering the commission's work.
